09.09.2008 GECKO I THE SELF ADHERING TEXTILE WONDER IN A NEW LOOK
Thanks to billions of tiny hairs that cover their feet, Geckos can walk upside down on glass plates. The self adhering textile from Creation Baumann, which is named after the great climber, is the product of many years of research and development. Due to a silicone based coating, GECKO can be directly fastened to glass surfaces from which, should the need arise, it can be removed again and again without leaving a trace or any loss of its adhesive quality.
The UV resistant textile offers privacy, glare and heat protection wherever curtaining, roller blinds or fabric panels are precluded for architectural or style reasons. The long lasting textile is also excellent for providing temporary solutions and seclusion. It is quick to affix to exposed interiors that need to be screened off. GECKO is extremely uncomplicated; no additional engineering, sewing or hanging systems are required. Tests have established that even under extreme sun exposure, this self adhering textile does not adversely affect glass (break resistance). Moreover it is extremely easy care. It can either be washed at 40 degrees or be cleaned in situ.
Last year, Création Baumann, the textile enterprise from Langenthal, Switzerland successfully launched this world wide unique product. Shortly afterwards it was awarded the coveted “Red Dot Award” design award. Since then it has won a number of prizes. “We are incredibly pleased how well the collection has been received by the market“, expounds René Hofmann, the product manger. “The interest from interior designers, both at home and abroad, is enormous“. The existing product line has now been expanded.
Further qualities add texture and colour bringing emotion into play. Thus the established, GECKO CRYPTA item, a flame retardant fleece in silver or white was enhanced by nine contemporary colour settings, including an elegant light grey, a delicate yellow and a warm orange. Depending on colour selection, the finely textured textile assumes a purist, understated or trendy look. This non woven sheer is supplemented by two, more opaque, digital prints. The GECKO MURA design captivates with a quiet grid texture that consists of narrow and irregular lines that run length and crosswise. At the window it is reminiscent of etched glass – an effect which mirrors a current trend in architecture. The item is available in four muted tones of milk glass. GECKO TERATO is also based on a grainy, weave texture. The opaque all over design assumes the look of a slightly grainy texture. Added perforations generate a greater degree of sheerness. Four muted colour tones underline the subtle interplay of light and shade.
GECKO DIPLO depicts a network of criss-crossing, irregular lines. With five colourites in earthy and metallic colours, the design assumes a modern and contemporary feel. Equally striking is the GECKO CRYPTA ORBIT item. Hand drawn, irregular squiggles create an entchanting, graphic design. The all over design is available in six colour settings including a neutral beige and an intensive orange accent colour.
By thus further enhancing the world’s revolutionary new textile for privacy, sun protection and styling of interiors, Création Baumann again demonstrates its vast textile technical expertise. “Gecko harbours a lot of potential“, declares René Hofmann. The new collection will be available from the specialist and retail trade from the autumn.
