Using “Silver and Steel” to regulate light and temperature
Création Baumann introduces the "Silver&Steel" collection

For more than fifteen years glass constructions for office buildings have been highly sought after. The trend for glass architecture brings ever new frontage constructions. Full and partial glazing has the advantage of letting a large amount of light and energy from the sun into the interior. The downside is that energy efficiency and user comfort frequently suffer. To aid ergonomic styling of work stations, privacy screens with optimal glare and sun protection are in demand, as are heat efficient temperature controls to regulate the atmosphere of interiors.

Création Baumann, the textile enterprise from Langenthal in Switzerland shows the way forward with future orientated developments which solve these problems in residential and contract sector furnishing. The two prong approach sees the existing “Silver” collection optimised and enhanced still further. This fabric collection captivates with aesthetics and polyvalent functionality. Setting it apart is a thin aluminium layer on the reverse of fabric in a process which uses highly sophisticated engineering. Depending on density, the textile retains a degree of sheerness. High sun reflection minimises incoming light to create subdued, glare free lighting whilst simultaneously minimising ingress of thermal energy. The “Silver” collection was enhanced with a protective coating making it more resistant to water stains, water vapours and dirt. The colour pallet encompasses neutral tones alongside elegant colours from the contract sector. New designs in the guise of “Shadow Flash” and “Shadow Form” bring morphing colours and crystal shapes to the window.

The other approach sees the specialists from Création Baumann introducing a new technology. Fabrics from the "Steel" collection feature a thin layer of steel on the reverse. Application involves highly complex vacuum and nano technologies. Miniscule particles of steel are affixed by cathodic evaporation. Because steel is darker than aluminium, textiles from the steel collection reflect less sun light than those from the “Silver” collection. In return they are washable and less susceptible to creasing and cracking. Another advantage of steel coated textiles is their great style diversity on woven and knitted fabrics. Thus designs encompass stripe, line and even burn-out motifs. All fabrics from the “Steel” collection are available in a width of three metres.

Outstanding results are achieved in functionality testing thanks to aluminium and steel coating that otherwise cannot be attained with conventional textiles. The entire group of the “Silver&Steel” collection has been submitted to comprehensive and rigorous evaluations. Reflection and transmission values for each and every colour setting have been established in accordance with prescribed test standards. These official certificates are readily available on the Création Baumann webpage; they serve to assist specialist engineers in establishing light and energy values.

The new products of “Silver&Steel” collection, which are as functional as they are aesthetically pleasing, ensure well being in the work place and at home. Création Baumann affirms its position as innovation leader with “Silver&Steel”. The extensive expertise in textile engineering derives from having specialist production engineers working in close collaboration with designers from the design and development team.

The collection is available from specialist outlets from January 2009 onwards.
