The Art of Living

The new “Vivendi” collection from the ‘Living Line’ by Création Baumann

“Ars Vivendi” means the art of living life to the full, in appreciating and enjoying life in all its facets. Création Baumann, the textile enterprise from Langenthal in Switzerland celebrates beauty and elegance with exquisite fabrics. The new “Vivendi” collection from the ‘Living Line’ creates a luxurious and enticing ambiance. The high quality collection thrives on contrasts. Next to understated fabrics with echoes of nature, feature dainty embroideries from the realm of Haute Couture. Simplicity meets with playful seduction, understated lightness with opulence. The items range from sheer curtain fabrics to hard wearing décor - and upholstery fabrics. The 15 designs are a scintillating extravagance of style: shimmering changeants, netlike weaves and subtle crush effects unite in a multi layered entity. The colour palette encompasses light hues of pearl, soft earthy tones as well as shades dark and sophisticated colours. Contemporary accents are set with an elegant grey-blue, dark aubergine, shimmering gold, light green and warm orange.

The collection’s pièce de résistance is the opulent, yet delicate “Indiva” fabric. The loosely attached layers of the two-layered fabric shift slightly during printing of the bloom design. The result is a sea of different coloured blooms that appears to float across a backdrop of leafy branches. The decorative fabric is available in a dark, sophisticated colouring as well as in light and joyous colour setting. “Coco” brings elegance and a touch of Haute Couture to interiors. The tulle captivates with embellishments in the lower third which are reminiscent of mordant lace borders. The star embroidered fabric is approximately 300 cm tall and therefore can, when not railroaded, be used as a side border. The colours include elegant black, in hues of natural stone and contemporary mauve. The delightful fabric is equally well at home in purist lofts as in baroque settings.

“Saphir Crash” is echoing fashion. Its three dimensional crush effect awakens memories of dazzling evening wear. “Maxim”, the two layered jacquard check with a sheer cross striped metal net on a two town block stripe design also features a slight crush effect. The combination of the lightly attached layers results in an ingenious, flowing check. “Crystal” the voile weave captivates with a fine net texture and a gentle sheen. This highly sheer fabric is at its most gorgeous when it has opulent, voluminous folds. “Yves” bestows a touch of luxury to any ambiance. It combines finest silk and shimmering metal. The malleability of this scintillating fabric creates sculptures in interiors with gorgeous light and changeant effects.

The new collections’ décor and upholstery fabrics continue the theme; elegance alternates between understated refinement and exquisite ornamentation. The interwoven shrink yarn lends “Kalahari”, the décor fabric, a three dimensional effect. The wave design evokes Japanese elegance and desert sand dunes. The inspiration for the elegant “Tuula” fabric came from nature. The three dimensional décor fabric with its bark-like textured stripes and high content of silk is enhanced by a matt and shine effect. Nature also inspired the “Valentino” upholstery fabric. The three dimensional Jacquard design thrives on the contrast of matt and shine. Ovals in soft velour emerge from the woven textile like pebbles on a beach. The earthy colouring of this quirky upholstery fabric is complemented by contemporary shades of orange and green.

The hallmark of “Paolo” is a delicate stripe design. The fluid colour transitions of the multi coloured jacquard lend an elegant note to interiors. The graphic design of the sheer “Cosmo” depicts circles in vertical lines like stings of pearls. The light fabric has purist and dreamy look. “Baram”, a staple item, completes the collection. Its slightly irregular texture lends this decor fabric vitality and naturalness. Equally versatile is the uni “Vincent”, the upholstery fabric. The high content of chenille gives this hard wearing fabric an exceptionally soft feel, whilst an interwoven luxury yarn bestows a touch of glamour.

Three items are re-interpreting the traditional alkaline crêpe technique. The underlying cotton fabric of “Milli”, “Violetta” and “Filippa” is printed with a special paint which is subsequently shrunk to give the fabrics their characteristic texture. The result is a three dimensional look and a dry, paper like feel. Whilst thousands of small dots are dancing across the fabric in “Milli”, bloom aligns with bloom in “Violetta”. “Filippa" combines the alkaline crêpe technique with a hole grid in burnout technique that generates gorgeous light effects at the window.

The “Vivendi” collection with its exquisite fabrics intensifies beauty and what is beautiful in life, bringing a touch of glamour to interiors. The collection is available from retailers from autumn onwards.
