Following on from previous stop-off points in Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Munich, the 5th Designer Working Day took place in Hamburg this year, with its usual extraordinary mix of international lectures, atmospherically-staged product presentations and a closing works party. About 600 architects, interior architects and designers travelled to Kaischuppen 52, next to the expanding HafenCity development project.
The Swiss architecture and design studio, Atelier Oi, transformed the interior area especially into a “Network space” for the Designer Working Day: blue plastic nets were suspended from large white helium balloons to create a living spatial structure with a continuously changing interplay between tension and relaxation; this shaped the various exhibition areas and formed the framework for the presentations produced by initiators Glas Trösch, Création Baumann and other partner companies.
The realisation of Création Baumann’s concept was completely in keeping with the free form of the spatial netting. We used approximately 100 cut-out inspection panels on over-sized, superimposed architect’s card to illustrate our competence in the field of textiles, in areas such as basics, protection against visual glare, adhesive textiles and innovative network structures.
