This 17th edition of Designers' Saturday makes the event even more international. Among others, the host country, Japan, adds a different type of aesthetics to Langenthal as well as unusual perspectives from 10,000 km away. 2018 is the first year under Jan Geipel’s curatorial management. As an architect, designer and entrepreneur he has created a multifaceted kaleidoscope of innovation, passion and bold scenography.
Contributing to this kaleidoscope is Création Baumann—exhibitor and venue in one—with strong textile colour accents. And that in the truest sense of the word: Between cauldrons, bobbins, colours and fabric, Création Baumann will whisk visitors away from daily routines to let them immerse themselves in the world of the dye house. Presented in a dark room with huge machines, the fascination of colour becomes perceptible. Just like the yarn does, visitors also succumb to the colour frenzy—until space, dye and spectator fuse into one in a surreal way.
“Dye house in a colour frenzy” was created and realised by designer Benjamin Thut and Eliane Ernst, along with Création Baumann’s design team. Using art as a medium, they transformed the processes happening every day in the dye house into a visual and spatial novel experience.
Le CorbusierIN ARCHITECTURE, COLOUR IS AS POWERFUL A MEDIUM AS THE FLOOR PLAN OR THE LAYOUT. OR EVEN BETTER: POLYCHROME, PART OF FLOOR PLAN AND LAYOUT ITSELF.
Jurystatement – Luciano Dell’Orefice about Création Baumann
Création Baumann hold the march of time staging their know-how and allowing people to see the rituality behind the making of their innovative products. Inviting us through a little walk from the shadow to the lights of their machines, they let us discover the different steps of the production line, in a sequence of real scale video «theaters». They embrace the visitor sharing with him, the textures, the smells, the colors and the sounds of their people working’s rituals. These giant in situ flying videos let us discover Création Baumann in the scene and behind the scene allowing us to hear, see, and smell what they do, taking away with us some of the poetry of the industrial.
Organised every two years, Designers’ Saturday has established itself as a central place of pilgrimage for the Swiss design scene. Free of the conventions of more traditional trade fairs, it means innovations can be experienced where design is successfully conceived and produced with passion and a spirit of innovation: in the middle of excellent hospitality, in a unique atmosphere with interaction between production facilities and design companies with an international profile.
Anything except ordinary: Création Baumann uses digital printing to combine textile aspirations with your very personal design, from as little as 5 running metres, to create unique products. Discover the process in our film.
With every new year, new colours make their entrance - inspired by the trends on the world’s catwalks.
A successful indoor atmosphere has a positive effect on the well-being of the people living in those rooms. Good acoustics plays an important role here and textiles can help to give it a distinct shape.
