To assess whether textiles are suitable for protecting valuable cultural assets, Création Baumann applies stringent conservational criteria. The results are clearly identified: once their pH value has been determined and Oddy tests have been carried out, the fabrics are classified as "Permanent" (P), "Temporary" (T), or "Unusable" (U). The fact that we publish the test results helps curators around the globe to select the most appropriate product.

Facts about testing for harmful substances

  • The pH value is determined, which has to fall between certain thresholds (acidity, alkalinity)
  • Evidence and assessment of corrosive compounds (silver, iron, lead)
  • Test records created compliant with the Oddy procedure
